The People Operations Assistant/Payroll will perform administrative tasks and services to support effective and efficient operations of the organization's human resource department. The incumbent is responsible for assisting the Human Resource (HR) Manager in human resource and administrative duties and accurate input, processing and submitting payroll. The incumbent must maintain confidentiality while providing excellent customer service, must have excellent attention to detail.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assists HR Manager in performing various administrative and human resource functions.
- Performs complex administrative duties, which involve exposure to sensitive information necessitating considerable use of tact, diplomacy, discretion and judgment. Maintaining confidentiality is essential.
- Answers frequently asked questions from applicants and employees relative to standard policies, benefits, hiring processes, etc.; refers more complex questions to appropriate senior-level HR staff or management.
- Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of human resource files and records.
- Performs periodic audits of HR files and records to ensure that all required documents are collected and filed appropriately.
- Provides clerical support to the HR department.
- Conducts or assists with new hire orientation.
- Assists with planning and execution of special events such as benefits enrollment, organization-wide meetings, employee recognition events, holiday parties, and retirement celebrations.
- Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent information regarding employment and employees.
- Assists and is responsible for spearheading our training program(s).
- Responsible for documenting and communicating with the HR Manager employee needs/issues.
- Enters, maintains, and processes information in the payroll system; information may include employee's hourly rates, salaries, commissions, bonuses or other compensation, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholding, address changes, and other information.
- Ensures proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, garnishment, child support and other deductions.
- Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
- Responsible for preparing, processing and submitting accurate bi-weekly payroll.
- Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
- Responsible for calculating and entering accurate Workers Compensation accruals and completing Workers Compensation audits.
- Develops and maintains tracking report(s) for all company gift cards.
- Maintains inventory of employee uniforms, orders new uniforms and name tags.
- Performs other duties assigned by the HR Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications: 2-years post-secondary education in human resources, business and/or accounting, or equivalent experience or qualifications.
Minimum Experience: 4-years' human resource, administrative, and/or payroll experience. Experience with ADP or other payroll processing software.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Excellent communication skills. Must be able to work independently, plan, organize and prioritize responsibilities. Good mathematical and analytical skills. Must be able to work in and communicate effectively in a team setting; efficient in problem solving. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and financial data analysis. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential information/situations with tact, professionalism and diplomacy. Proficient with payroll, human resource information system (HRIS) and similar computer applications. Attention to detail is essential.
