Nature of Work

Responsibility for performing unskilled to semi-skilled work in the maintenance, repair and construction of the municipal water, sanitary sewer and storm drain systems. Work responsibilities extend to providing work direction to less experienced maintenance workers and laborers. Work is performed under the general direction of the Utilities Systems Foreman.

Essential Functions of Work

  • Maintains, repairs and installs water, sewer and storm drain systems to achieve efficient operations; responds to emergency calls for service as required.
  • Responds to customer complaints.
  • Repairs, replaces and installs fire hydrants and valves for proper performance and efficiency.
  • Turns on and shuts off water service's and water mains in order to perform repairs and maintenance.
  • Responds to after hour call outs.
Education and Experience
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of experience in water and sewer system repair and maintenance.
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Possession of a valid Montana class B commercial driver's license with air brake.
  • Obtain Montana Class I Water Distribution certification within one year.

Requirements of Work

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position provides work direction to less experienced workers and laborers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions and confined spaces. The employee is exposed to cold, heat, snow, wind, rain.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, bend, crawl, kneel, twist, reach, grasp, push, pull, ride and perform similar body movements. Must have the ability to perform heavy physical work and to lift and carry up to 100 pounds at a time; the possession of hand/eye coordination sufficient to operate hand and power tools, various maintenance and repair equipment, and a motor vehicle; the ability to talkand hear in person or by telephone and two-way radio; and the ability to see and read instructions and reports.

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

The work schedule is a 40-hour work week, Sunday through Saturday. Work is typically performed Monday through Friday. Employee must be available for on-call work. This position is a non-exempt and eligible for overtime. Any overtime must be authorized prior to working.

TRAVEL

Travel is primarily local during the business day. Occasional travel may be required to attend off-site training and educational opportunities.
